DNA Health Tip 101: Tip 001

DNA Health 101: InfoTip 1

Nucleotides are not just the building blocks of DNA and RNA - they also serve as vital messengers in cellular communication. Playing a key role in signaling pathways, nucleotides regulate cell functions such as growth, energy production, and tissue maintenance. By facilitating intercellular communication, nucleotides help coordinate cellular activities, ensuring the proper functioning of tissues and organs for overall health and well-being.

Nucleotides consists of a sugar molecule (either ribose in RNA or deoxyribose in DNA) attached to a phosphate group and a nitrogen-containing base. The bases used in DNA are adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G) and thymine (T). In RNA, the base uracil (U) takes the place of thymine. DNA and RNA molecules are polymers made up of long chains of nucleotides.
